Text Box: Another successful series of Lenten Luncheons has concluded, thanks to the hard work of the volunteers involved. This year, with Easter being so early, the weather was more of a factor than usual, but dedicated folks from all over the area turned out and the speakers were well received. Pastor Rocky hosted, and his booming voice led the hymn sing, accompanied by Norma on the new electronic piano.
The menus were set by the co-chairs, Carolyn Goddard & Janet Bianca, and with the “kitchen crusaders” manning the utensils delicious meals were served each week.
Before anyone can be served, the dining room had to be set up, and we had dedicated helpers doing that each week. Text Box: Jane Simpson, Nell DeMonico, Luella Kennedy, and even a couple of ex-Rainbow Club members (and not even members of our church), Nellie Shimmel & Mabel Wood, placed the cups and silver, and more importantly, cleaned up afterwards.
One of the most appreciated parts of the lunch series (especially with the inclement weather) was the availability of the church van transportation. Jane & Bob MacNaughton went out in any weather and picked up those desiring a ride to the lunches. Many kudos were sent their way by those who used the service.
Aside from the dining room crew and Carolyn & Janet, others who helped Text Box: An elderly woman walked into the local country church. The friendly usher greeted her at the door and helped her up the flight of steps. "Where would you like to sit?" he asked politely. "The front row please," she answered. "You really don't want to do that," the usher said. "The pastor is really boring.” “Do you happen to know who I am?" the woman inquired. "No." he said. "I'm the pastor's mother," she replied indignantly. "Do you know who I am?" he asked. "No." she said. "Good," he answered.
